abstract PURPOSE: To remove odorous impurities or color forming impurities without performing dilution, almost leaving a large amt. of impurities or performing excessive oxidation by bringing alkanesulfonyl chloride and ozone-containing gas into contact with each other within a specific temp. range for a specific time. n CONSTITUTION: Alkanesulfonyl chloride represented by formula RSO 2 Cl (R is 1-20C alkyl) and ozone-containing gas (containing ozone in a concn. of about 0.01-10 wt.%, pref., about 0.05-4.0 wt.%) are brought into contact with each other for a time sufficient to reduce odorous impurities or color forming impurities, pref., for about 10 min-8 hr at about 0-100°C, pref., about 30-70°C.
