abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition, capable of exhibiting a chiral smectic C phase within a wide temperature range including ambient temperature by adding a chiral dopant to a liquid crystal composition, containing a matrix liquid crystal within a medium temperature range and a high temperature liquid crystal consisting of a specific compound and capable of exhibiting the smectic C phase. n CONSTITUTION: The objective composition which is a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition, obtained by adding (B) a chiral dopant containing an optically active compound to (A) a liquid crystal composition, containing a matrix liquid crystal within a medium temperature region and a high temperature liquid crystal and capable of exhibiting a smectic C phase.
