abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A 2-(2-oxazolyl)benzofuran derivative expressed by the formula [R 1 to R 4 represent H, OH or 1-3C alkoxy, or R 2 and R 3 together represent hydrocarbons (in this case 1-2 chain member can be replaced with an O atom); X represents haloformyl or carboxyl]. n EXAMPLE: 2-(5-Ethoxycarbonyl-2-oxazolyl)-5,6-methylenedioxybenzofuran. n USE: A fluorescent labeling agent. n PREPARATION: Ethyldiazopyrvate is reacted with chloroacetonitrile in benzene in the presence of a copper catalyst to form 2-chloro-5-ethoxycarbonyl-oxazole, which is then reacted with 4,5-methylenedioxysalycylaldehyde in DMF in the presence of potassium carbonate to form a 2-(2-oxazolyl) benzofuran derivative.
