titleOfInvention | Production of aminobenzanthrones |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the subject high-quality substance useful as an intermediate for vat dyes, organic photoelectric materials, etc., in high yield by subjecting a halogenobenzanthrone to amino substitution with ammonia in the presence of a copper catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A halogenobenzanthrone (preferably 3-bromo- and 3,9- dibromobenzanthrone) is reacted with ammonia at 200-210°C under 5-70kg/cm 2 pressure using a copper catalyst in an amount of 0.05-0.5pt.wt. based on 1pt.wt. halogenobenzanthrone to afford the subject substance. The ammonia is used in a molar amount of normally ≥4 times based on 1mol halogenobenzanthrone and an aqueous solution of the ammonia in ≥15wt.% concentration is preferably used. The aqueous ammonia is also a reaction solvent and further toluene, xylene, etc., may be mixed therewith for use. Electrolytic copper, copper oxide, copper acetate, etc., are used as the copper catalyst. The process is simplified by the aforementioned method without producing waste acids. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
