abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a ceramic fuel of a large grain size and a large creep velocity by molding and sintering the fuel, with making a total adding amount of an Al 2 O 3 and an SiO 2 to be between 0.05 to 0.4% and a weight ratio of the Al 2 O 3 and the SiO 2 to be within a range of 1:1 to 30:1. n CONSTITUTION: A powder which is a nuclear fuel substance made of dioxide of at least one element out of a uranium or a plutonium, or the said substance added with a gadolinia, and is a mixture having a total adding amount of the Al 2 O 3 and the SiO 2 to be 0.05 to 0.4% and a weight ratio of the Al 2 O 3 and the SiO 2 to be 1:1 to 30:1, is molded and, after that, is sintered for 2 to 6 hours at a temperature of 1,600 to 1,750°C, with an addition of a carrier gas containing a saturated stream of 40 to 70°C, at a volume ratio of 1 to 10%, to a main atmospheric gas, in order to control an oxygen potential under a reducing atmosphere containing a hydrogen. In this case, large sized pellet having an average crystal diameter of 30 to 40μm and also having a creep velocity higher than an order of 10 2 to 10 3 , without any adjustment for grain size, can be obtained. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
