abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a coating compsn. giving a coating film which has a reduced exudasion of a water-soluble component from the film and is improved in the food hygiene, taste retaining properties, can openability, processability, and adhesive properties by dispersing an inorg. powder in an aq. dispersion of a self-emulsifiable epoxy resin contg. carboxyl groups. n CONSTITUTION: A 40 to 90wt.% arom. epoxy resin having 1.1 to 2.0 epoxy groups on an average in the molecule and a number-average MW of at least 2,000 and 60 to 10wt.% vinyl monomer mixture contg. at least 20wt.% (based on the monomer mixture) vinyl monomer having a carboxyl group (e.g. acrylic acid) are copolymerized in the presence of a polymerization initiator (e.g. azobisbutyronitrile) to give a self-emulsifiable epoxy resin contg. carboxyl groups. In an aq. dispersion of the resulting self-emulsifiable epoxy resin is dispersed an inorg. powder with a mean particle diameter of 2μm or lower and selected from the group consisting of SiO 2 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , BaSO 4 , CaCO 3 , and ZnO in a wt. ratio of the resin (solid base) to the powder of (99.5:0.5) to (60:40). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
