abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled terpolymer contg. an acrylamide unit, an alkyl- substd. acrylamide unit and an N,N-dimethyl-acrylamide unit by a specified ratio, with good stability to hydrolysis and being used for a viscosity provided agent for water and brine, etc. n CONSTITUTION: An aimed terpolymer consisting of constitutional units of formula (wherein R 1 is H, an 1-10C alkyl, a cycloalkyl, etc., and R 2 is a 4-18C alkyl, a cycloalkyl, etc., x is 10-90 mol.% and y is 0.1-10 mol.% and z is 10-50 mol.%) is obtd. by copolymerizing a mixture of acrylamide (A), an N-substd. acrylamide (B) (e.g. N-1-octyl-acrylamide, etc.), and N,N-dimethylacrylamide (C) in deoxygen water in the presence of a surfactant such as sodium dodecyl sulfate by using potassium persulfate, etc., as a polymn. initiator. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
