abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I [R is H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, -NR 3a R 3b (R 3a and R 3b are H, lower alkyl or R 3a and R 3b together with N form 5-6-membered ring)-containing lower alkyl, etc.; A is -CHR 2 (R 2 is OH, lower alkoxy or lower alkanoyloxy), -CH=CH- or -CO-; o is 1 or 2; B is lower alkylene; R 1 is pyridyl, piperidinyl, piperazinyl, etc., which may contain substituted amino group, etc.; l and m are 0 or 1] and a salt thereof. n EXAMPLE: 8-Methyl-3-[1-hydroxy-1-(2-pyridyl)methyl]carbostyril hydrochloride. n USE: An antiarrhythmic agent. n PREPARATION: A compound shown by formula II is reacted with a compound shown by formula III in the molar ratio of 1:1-5 in a solvent such as dioxane or benzene at -50-70°C for 0.5-5 hours to give a compound shown by formula IV. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
