titleOfInvention Production of monochloroacetaldehyde trimer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain high-purity monochloroacetaldehyde trimer in good yield by dissolving a liquid consisting essentially of monochloroacetaldehyde in an organic solvent and cyclizing the monochloroacetaldehyde in the presence of sulfuric acid. n CONSTITUTION: A liquid consisting essentially of monochloroacetaldehyde is dissolved in an organic solvent preferably selected from aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, CCl 4 and CS 2 and then cyclized in the presence of sulfuric acid to form monochloroacetaldehyde trimer as crystals. An organic solvent of the same kind as that described above and water are then preferably added to the resultant reaction solution and the obtained mixture is heated to dissolve the above-mentioned crystals. An organic layer is then separated, washed with water, dried and then cooled. Alternatively, ether is added to the afore- mentioned reaction solution to dissolve the above-mentioned crystals and the organic layer is washed with water are dried to further distill away the ether. The respective deposited crystals are separated to afford the afore-mentioned trimer in good yield and high purity from the reaction solution readily available from inexpensive paraldehyde, etc., as a raw material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
