titleOfInvention Method for suppressing formation of polymer at time of ketene dimerization
abstract PURPOSE: To suppress the formation of a polymer at the time of dimerization by using a specific amt. of sulfur dioxide as an inhibitor to add the same to a reaction medium of keten obtained by the catalytic decomposition of acetic acid or crude ketene gas to perform dimerization reaction of a batchwise system or the like. n CONSTITUTION: 10-6,000 ppm, pref., 100-2,000 ppm of sulfur dioxide is added on the suction side of a fluid circulating type vacuum pump used in the compression of crude ketene gas obtained by the catalytic decomposition of acetic acid as an inhibitor (additive) to cleave a nonionic polymn. chain and the development of a polymn. initiating group is deactivated to perform batchwise or continuous dimerization reaction to suppress the formation of a polymer at a time of dimerization. The above method contains no metal or halogen and does not use protonic acid and a solvent to be industrially advantageous. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
