titleOfInvention Optically active glycerol derivative
abstract NEW MATERIAL:An optically active substance shown by formula I [R 1 is H, C 6 H 5 CH 2 , CH 2 =CHCH 2 or CH 2 =C(CH 3 )CH 2 ; R 2 is H, CH 3 SO 2 or CF 3 SO 2 with the proviso that R 1 and R 2 are not H at the same time; * is asymmetrical carbon atom]. n EXAMPLE: (R)-3-Chloro-2-methanesulfonyloxy-1-propanol. n USE: An intermediate capable of producing optically active epichlorohydrin useful as a raw material for drugs, liquid crystal, etc., in high purity by mutual conversion of stereochemical structure of both antipodes of optically active epichlorohydrin. n PREPARATION: (R)-Epichlorohydrin is reacted with a compound shown by the formula R 1 OH go give a compound shown by the formula (R)-(I)-(a), OH of the compound is reacted with a sulfonic acid halide and a base to give a compound shown by formula (R)-(I)-(b) (M is CH 3 or CF 3 ). Then this compound is reacted in the presence of a catalyst to give a compound shown by the formula (R)-(I)-(c). Further this compound is subjected to intramolecular ring formation in the presence of a base to give (S)-epichlorohydrin. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
