titleOfInvention Culture of animal cell
abstract PURPOSE: To stably culture an animal cell immobilized with an alginic acid salt gel, in high yield for a long period, by alternately using culture media containing phosphate ion and phosphoric acid ester as phosphorus source. n CONSTITUTION: Animal cell immobilized with a gel of a polyvalent metal salt of alginic acid, especially gel of Ca salt or Sr salt, is cultured by the following procedures. The animal cell immobilized with the alginic acid salt is prepared e.g. by dropping a solution produced by suspending animal cells in a solution of an alkali metal alginate into a solution containing the above polyvalent metal ions. The alkali metal salt is e.g. Na salt or K salt. Conventional medium for cell culture can be used as the medium containing the phosphate ion as a P source. The medium and a medium containing a phosphoric acid ester as a P source are alternately used in the culture of the immobilized animal cell. The gel strength sufficient to perform a longterm culture can be maintained while keeping the proliferativity of the cell or the productivity of an antibody and the industrial mass-culture of the cell can be carried out by this process. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
