titleOfInvention Polyether bis-phosphonic acid compound
abstract NEW MATERIAL: Compounds of formula I [R is -CH 2 -, -CH 2 CH 2 -; R' is (methyl- substituted)-CH 2 CH 2 -; n is 1-4], their water-soluble salts and esters having a 1-6C alkyl group. n EXAMPLE: Ethylene glycol di-(phosphonomethyl)ether. n USE: Organic corrosion inhibitors. n PROCESS: A hydroxyalkyl sulfonic acid dialkyl ester compound of formula II [R" is a 1-6C alkyl; M is an alkali (alkaline earth) metal] is reacted with 2- benzyloxyalkyl p-toluene sulfonate, etc., to form a first intermediate. It is reacted with a hydrogen (source) to form a second intermediate. This is reacted with a hydrogen ion acceptor, toluene sulfonylchloride, etc., to form a third intermediate, which is reacted with a hydroxyalkyl phosphonic acid dialkylester compound of formula III. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
