abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compounds in a high yield by fluorinating a chloropropane or a chlorofluoropropane having a dihalogenomethylene group using hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a catalyst consisting of halides of specified metals such as antimony. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (0≤m≤5) having a dihalogenomethylene group, e.g. a compound of formula CCl 3 CCl 2 CCl 3 , CCl 3 CClFCCl 3 , CCl 3 CF 2 CCl 3 , CCl 3 CF 2 CClF, CCl 2 FCF 2 CCl 2 F, CCl 3 CF 2 CClF 2 , CCl 2 FCF 2 CClF 2 or CCl 3 CF 2 CF 3 is fluorinated by hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a catalyst consisting of at least one of halides of Sb, Nb and Ta, preferably at the ordinary pressure or under liquid pressure at 0-150°C to efficiently produce the objective compound of formula II (2≤n≤8; m<n) having a difluoromethylene group useful as an intermediate for synthesis of hydrogen-containing fluorocarbons free from destroying the stratospheric ozone layer. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
