titleOfInvention Production of 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxy anthraquinone
abstract PURPOSE: To economically obtain the subject compd. of an intermediate useful for producing solid anthraquinone in a high purity and in a high yield, by brominating 1-amino-4-hydroxy-anthraquinone in an inert neutral org liquid. n CONSTITUTION: 1-Amino-4-hydroxy-anthraquinone represented by formula I is brominated in an inert neutral org. liquid (pref., nitrobenzene, 0- dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene or methyl benzoate) by using a brominating agent (e.g.; phosphorus tribromide, phosphoryl bromide, phsphorus pentabromide, especially, elemental bromine) to obtain A compd. represented by formula II. The reaction is performed at a temp. of 100-180°C, especially, 120-140°C. It is pref. to use the inert org. liquid in an amt. of 4-12 kg, especially, 6-9 kg with respect to 1 kg of the compd. represented by formula I. The brominating agent is generally used in a stoichiometric amt. especially, in a 20 equivalent % excessive amt. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
