titleOfInvention Sizing agent for paper-making, its production and sizing process
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive sizing agent for paper-making, free from endothermic peak of differential scanning thermal analysis in a temperature range below the melting point of a ketene dimer compound and scarcely staining a paper-making machine by heat-treating an aqueous dispersion containing a ketene dimer compound at a temperature near the melting point of the compound. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous dispersion containing a ketene dimer compound [preferably a mixture of two or more kinds of the compounds of formula (R 1 and R 2 are decyl, tetradecenyl, etc,)] is heat-treated at a temperature near the melting point (Tm) of the compound (preferably between Tm-20°C and Tm+5°C) to obtain the objective sizing agent for paper-making, free from endothermic peak of differential scanning thermal analysis in a temperature range below the melting point of said compound, having a ratio of [(the endothermic peak area at a temperature below the melting point and measured by heating at a heating rate of 5°C/min)/(endothermic peak area at the melting point)] of ≤0.3 and having improved operability. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
