titleOfInvention Catalyst and production thereof
abstract PURPOSE: To facilitate mounting of the catalyst to apparatus having a curved structure by providing a coating layer consisting of active alumina contg. platinum group metals on the surface of a curved ceramics honeycomb base body consisting of silica, etc., thereby forming the catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture composed of at least the alumina, fused silica, potassium salt, methyl cellulose, surfactant, and water is extrusion molded to form the honeycomb body. The methyl cellulose in this honeycomb body is gelatinized in hot water and thereafter, the honeycomb body is cut perpendicularly to the extrusion direction to form the plate honeycomb body. While this body is softened in hot water, the body is curved. The honeycomb body is dried and calcined while the curved state is maintained. Further, the body is immersed in the slurry of the aq. soln. of the mixture composed of the platinum group metal salts, the active alumina and boehmite. The body is then dried and calcined to form the coating layer on the plate honeycomb body, by which the catalyst is obtd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
