titleOfInvention Production of halogenated polymer microporous membrane excellent in strength property
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a halogenated polymer microporous membrane which is made of a specified fine polyhalogenated copolymer (mixture) powder, is composed of the particles of the powder irreversibly bonded to each other through neck-like contact points and has a uniform small pore diameter and excellent high-temperature resistance and chemical resistance. n CONSTITUTION: A fine powder of a polyhalogenated copolymer having a moiety represented by formula I or II (wherein X is fluorine or chlorine; a is 1-6; and b is 1-6) (desirably, ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer) or a mixture thereof and desirably having a particle diameter of 0.5 μm or below is dispersed in a solvent. The formed dispersion is mixed with a binder polymer (e.g. polycarbonate resin) dissolved in a solvent (e.g. methylene chloride), and a film is formed from the resulting mixture. The solvent is evaporated from the wet film, and the film is heated. The binder polymer is extracted therefrom to obtained a microporous membrane having a mean pore diameter of 1 μm or below, a porosity of 65% or below and a content of surface pores with diameters within 0.7 μm of 50% based on the entire surface pores, freed from ions and being desirable as a battery diaphragm. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
