Use of stabilized chlorine dioxide in ophthalmic formulation |
abstract |
PURPOSE: To prepare an aqueous solution for ophthalmic use comprising a specific amount of stabilized chlorine dioxide as a preservative. n CONSTITUTION: This aqueous solution is prepared by including chlorine dioxide stabilized as a preservative in an amount of about 0.002-0.02% (wt./vol.), preferably about 0.004-0.01% (wt./vol.)in an aqueous solution for ophthalmic use. Furthermore, about 0.5-0.9% (wt./vol.) ophthalmically permissible inorganic salt (e.g. an alkaline metallic chloride or an alkaline earth metallic chloride) and a buffer agent (e.g. potassium phosphate, boric acid, sodium borate or sodium phosphate) in an amount effective in stabilizing the aqueous solution at a permissible physiological pH (about 6.8-8) are contained in the aqueous solution. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
