titleOfInvention | Production of phenyl alcohol derivative |
abstract | PURPOSE: To readily obtain the subject compound useful for organic synthesis in high yield according to a method of economic high value excellent in industrial productivity by reacting a phenyl alcohol with a nucleophilic agent using montmorillonite readily available at a low cost as a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A phenyl alcohol, such as (S)-1-phenyl ethanol, is reacted with a nucleophilic agent in an amount of 500-3000mmol based on 1000mmol above- mentioned compound in a solvent, such as benzene, in the presence of montmorillonite catalyst in an amount of 15-830 pts.wt. based on 100 pt.wt. phenyl alcohol at 40-90°C for 0.5-100hr to afford the objective compound which is an ether, such as di-1-phenyl ethyl ether, a sulfide or ester. 1-Octanal, trans-2- buten-1-ol, l-borneol, l-menthol, propionic acid, 1-butanethiol, etc., are cited as the afore-mentioned nucleophilic agent and selected according to the kind of the objective compound for use. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
