abstract | PURPOSE: To produce 12α-hydroxypregna-1,4-dien-3-one-20α-carboxylic acid or a salt thereof by culturing a specific bacterium in a culture medium containing deoxycholic acid and/or a salt thereof. n CONSTITUTION: A bacterium, capable of producing 12α-hydroxypregna-1,4-dien-3- one-20α-carboxylic acid and/or a salt thereof and belonging to the genus Alcaligenes is cultured in a culture medium containing deoxycholic acid and/or a salt thereof. In this case, a nutrient source containing a glucide is intermittently or continuously added to carry out flow addition culture and produce the objective 12α-hydroxypregna-1,4-dien-3-one-20α-carboxylic acid and/or salt thereof.
