titleOfInvention Superfine magnetic particles of epsilon' iron carbide and its production
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain ultrafine magnetic particles of ε' iron carbide of excellent magnetic properties in which the particle size of the product is only dependent on the particle size of the stating substance, by allowing α-Fe of a specific particle size to contact and react with a reductive carbonization agent including carbon at lower temperature. n CONSTITUTION: A reductive carbonization agent containing carbon or a mixture thereof with a reducing agent free from carbon is prepared. The reductive carbonization agent or the mixture is allowed to contact and react with α-Fe of 0.01 to 0.2μm average particle size at a low temperature of ≤250°C whereby ultrafine magnetic particles of ε'-iron carbide given by the formula: ε'-Fe 2.2 C, of 0.01 to 0.2μm average particle size. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
