abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R is formula II (R 2 is H, halogen, cyano; R 3 is halogen, lower alkyl; l is 0 to 4), formula III (m is 0 to 3); R 1 is H, halogen, lower alkyl; Q is O, S; X, Y are H, lower alkyl, halogen: Z is halogen]. n EXAMPLE: 1-3-(2-Chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenyl-3-chloro-4-chloromethyl-2- pyrrolidinone. n USE: Selective herbicide. It manifests marked activity with a reduced dose without chemical injury to useful crops such as rice plant, wheat or the like even at a high dose. n PREPARATION: Allyl acetamide of formula IV is heated in an inert solvent such as benzene or toluene in the presence of a transition metal ion catalyst such as vanadium or copper at 50 to 180°C, preferably at 120 to 170°C to give the compound of formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
