titleOfInvention Orientation control film and orientation control method and liquid crystal display element
abstract PURPOSE:To stably and well orient even a ferroelectic liquid crystal by charging the liquid crystal between substrates which are coated with coated films essentially consisting of the protein contained in blood plasma in a specified direction and a pair of crystal supporting plates. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrode layer 12 consisting of indium.tin oxide (ITO) are formed on the substrates 11 consisting of glass or plastic and orientation control films 13 coated by pulling up the substrates in the specified direction so as to cross the surface of the aq. soln. essentially consisting of the protein contained in the blood plasma are formed thereon; thereafter, sealing resins 14 are printed and two sheets of the substrates the stuck to each other. After the liquid crystal 15 is injected from an aperture, the aperture is sealed to form the liquid crystal cell. The molecules, more particularly, the liquid crystal molecules are inexpensively and easily oriented by this orientation control method. Even the ferroelectric liquid crystal which is heretofore extremely difficult to be oriented is thereby stably and easily oriented.
