abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition having high saturation of red color, intense color tone and good light-resistance, washing resistance and abrasion resistance by using aminophenols as a color-developing substance and an alpha- naphtol derivative, etc., as a coupling agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition contains aminophenols of formula I (X is halogen) (preferably 2-chloro-4-aminophenol) as a color-developing substance and an alpha-naphthol derivative of formula II (R is H or OH) (preferably 1-naphthol, 1,5-dihydroxynaphthol or 1,7-dihydroxynaphthol) and/or p-amino-o- cresol as a coupling agent. The molar ratio of the color-developing substance to the coupling agent is preferably 1:(0.8-1.5).
