titleOfInvention Production of highly hygroscopic polymer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject polymer useful for hygienic material, etc., having excellent water-absorptivity, fluidity and transportability by using mixed surfactant comprising sorbitan fatty acid ester and saccharose fatty acid ester having respectively specific HLB values. n CONSTITUTION: Acrylic acid-based monomer selected from a group of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and alkali metallic salt of said acid is subjected to opposite phase suspension polymerization in a hydrocarbon solvent using initiator of radical polymerization in the presence of crosslinking agent. In said process, a mixture of sorbitan fatty acid ester having at least appearance of solid state at normal temperature and 1-8 HLB value and saccharose fatty acid ester having 1-6 HLB is used as a surfactant applying to opposite phase suspension polymerization to afford the aimed polymer. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
