PURPOSE: To obtain the title cermet having no pores and voids and having excellent heat resistance, wear resistance, toughness, etc., at the time of sintering a green compact of a cermet contg. large amounts of N, by introducing an N 2 gas at specific pressure into a furnace in the process of specific rising temp. and progressing sintering while suppressing the decomposition of TiN. n CONSTITUTION: A green compact having the compsn. contg. 50 to 80wt.% Ti by the conversion into carbide, nitride or carbon nitride and 10 to 40wt.% elements in the VI group and constituted of 70 to 90wt.% hard components having 0.4 to 0.6 atomic ratio expressed by (N/C+N) and 10 to 30% bonding phase is prepd. As the above material powder, TiC, TiN, TiCN, etc., are used, and, as the elements in the group, WC, Mo 2 , C, MoC, etc., are used. The above green compact is heated in a vacuum furnace of ≤0.5Torr, to which an N 2 gas under the pressure of 1 to 30Torr is introduced at the prescribed time. When the green compact reaches the maximum temp. for sintering, the N 2 gaseous pressure is held to the previously set one, by which the objective TiCN- base cermet can be obtd. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
