titleOfInvention Production of synthetic intermediate for 1beta-alkylcarbapenem
abstract NEW MATERIAL:A 4β-(1β-alkyl-2-carboxy-2 propenyl)-2-azetidinone compound expressed by formula II [R 1 is H or (substituted) alkyl; R 2 is (substituted) alkyl; R 3 is H or carboxyl-protecting group]. n USE: A starting raw material for 1β-alkylcarbapenem compounds which are excellent antibiotic substances ad useful as for preventing and treating infectious diseases, etc., in humans and animals. n PREPARATION: A 4-leaving group-substituted-2-azetidinone compound expressed by formula I (R 4 is leaving group) is reacted with a trans-2-leaving group- substituted methyl-3-alkylacrylic acid compound expressed by formula III (R 5 is R 4 ) in a solvent, such as tetrahydrofuran, in the presence of zinc dust and a reducing metal, such as cupric bromide, to afford the compound expressed by formula II in high yield. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
