abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare a therapeutic agent, comprising a specific antibiotic and useful for treating laminitis in equine livestock and improving feed utilization efficiency. n CONSTITUTION: This therapeutic agent is prepared by including a glycopeptide antibiotic, a glycolipid antibiotic, a staphylomycin antibiotic, a polypeptide antibiotic, a macrolide antibiotic, a sulfur-containing peptide antibiotic, a lincosamide antibiotic, a tiamulin antibiotic, a nitrofuran antibiotic, a tetracycline antibiotic, a penicillin antibiotic, a polythiazole antibiotic, an ionophore antibiotic or other antibiotics active against Gram-positive bacteria or a combination thereof. The therapeutic agent is useful as the one for laminitis by controlling the lactic acid concentration in he posterior intestines and is effectively used as a feed utilization efficiency improver by increasing the production of a propionate during the fermentation and digestion in the posterior intestines. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO |
