titleOfInvention Production of chlorofluorobenzenes
abstract PURPOSE: To produce chlorofluorobenzene which is used as a starting substance for an intermediate of antibiotics in high yield through a one-step process by allowing a specific fluorine-containing nitrobenzene with chlorine gas. n CONSTITUTION: A chlorofluorobenzene of formula II (n is 1 to 3, m is 0 to 2, and n+m is 1 to 3) such as 3,4-difluorochlorobenzene is obtained by reaction of a fluorine-containing nitrobenzene of formula I such as 3,4- difluoronitrobenzene with chlorine gas, preferably at 300 to 600°C at a ratio of 1 mole of the nitrobenzene to 0.1 to 20 moles of chlorine gas. Additionally, it is very advantageous that a fluorine-containing nitrobenzene of formula III is allowed to react with chlorine gas to give another chlorofluorobenzene of formula IV. According to the process, the introduction of a chlorine atom into the paraposition to the F atoms directly bonding to the benzene ring can he carried out very advantageously. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
