abstract | PURPOSE: To enable non-destructive measurement of the concentration of a gamma-radiating isotopic element or other elements by measuring the concentration of a solution by utilizing the property of a gamma-ray absorption coefficient which varies characteristically for each element according to the energy of a gamma-ray. n CONSTITUTION: A uranyl nitrate solution 22 containing a spent fuel is supplied to a sample solution cell 21 of an apparatus. A gamma-ray outputted from the sample solution cell 21 passes through two collimators 23 and 24 sequentially to be collimated and reaches a detector 26 to be detected. A counting ratio between gamma-rays in a pair emitted from the same radioactive isotopic element is determined, and the concentration of a solute contained in the solution 22 and having different absorption coefficients for gamma-rays of two kinds of energies is determined from the value of said counting ratio and the relationship between the concentration determined by calibration measurement or the like using a solution 22 of known concentration and a counting rate ratio.
