NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R 1 to R 6 are H or 1-22C alkyl; R 7 to R 12 are H, 1-3C alkyl, F or Cl). n EXAMPLE: 1,1-Bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)-phenyl]cyclohexane. n USE: A raw material for preparing polyimides for the aligning films of liquid crystal display elements having high pre-tilt angles. The compound of formula I is the raw material for the polyimides capable of giving the aligning films having good aligning properties, uniformity and high pre-tilting angles by rubbing the films of the polyimides. n PREPARATION: A dinitro compound of formula II is hydrogenated in the presence of a palladium-carbon catalyst in a solvent such as toluene at 40-80°C to form the compound of formula I. The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting a diol compound of formula III with a p-chloronitrobenzenes in the presence of a base (e.g., KOH). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
