PURPOSE: To produce the title compound useful as an intermediate for monomer of functional resin, etc., such as polycarbonate in high reaction ratio and selection ratio by reacting diphenylmethanes with chlorine in the presence of a catalyst without using any reaction solvent. n CONSTITUTION: When diphenylmethanes expressed by formula I (R 1 to R 4 are H, halogen, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl) are reacted with chlorine in the presence of catalyst such as α,α-azobisisobutylonitrile, the reaction is carried out in solventless conditions to provide the aimed α,α-dichloro-diphenylmethanes (e.g., α,α-dichloro-diphenylmethane) expressed by formula II. The aimed compound the produced in high efficiency, since reaction solvent is not used and a by- product can be simply treated, since the by-product is hydrochloric acid. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio |
