titleOfInvention Infrared-ray control element and infrared-ray detector using same
abstract PURPOSE: To miniaturize the title detector and to reduce the cost thereof by using an infrared-ray control element obtained by sealing liquid crystal between infrared-ray polarizing plates. n CONSTITUTION: The infrared-ray control element is provided with the infrared- ray polarizing plates 5a and 5b obtained by respectively forming insulating films 7a, 7b, 8a and 8b on the surfaces and the back surfaces of silicon substrates 6a and 6b and forming conductive stripes 9a and 9b on either surfaces of the insulating films. The polarizing plates 5a and 5b are arranged with a certain gap so that the respective stripes 9a and 9b face in parallel with or perpendicular to each other and the liquid crystal 12 is sealed between the polarizing plates 5a and 5b. Moreover, the insulating films 7a, 7b, 8a and 8b are made to be infrared-ray reflection preventing films and the stripes 9a and 9b are so formed that the pitch is ≤2μm and the film thickness is 1,000-2,000Å. Thus, excellent polarization characteristic can be obtained in the short wavelength area of infrared ray. Then the detector can be miniaturized and the cost thereof can be reduced. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
