abstract NEW MATERIAL: A β-phenoxyethylamine of formula I [wherein Z is NH 2 or NO 2 ; M is H, an alkali (alkaline earth) metal cation or the like; R is H, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkinyl, phenyl or benzyl; R 1 and R 2 are each H, an alkyl, phenyl or benzyl or may be combined with each other to form an alicyclic grape; X is SO 2 or CO; and Y is H or SO 3 H (wherein Y is SO 3 M when X is SO 2 , and is H when X is CO)]. n EXAMPLE: 8-Amino-3,4-dihydro-(2H)-5,1,2-benzoxathiazepine-1,1-dioxide. n USE: A diazo component for azo dyes or a condensing component for an active quinone in the synthesis of triphendioxadine dyes. n PREPARATION: For example, a compound of formula II (wherein Hal is Cl, Br or F) is cyclized in the presence of a base to obtain a compound of formula III, the obtained compound is reduced to obtain a compound of formula IV, and the last compound is hydrolytically decyclized to obtain a compound of formula I (wherein Z is NH 2 ). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
