titleOfInvention Production of hydroquinone from quinone or hydroquinone from quinone with cation exchange resin
abstract PURPOSE: To carry out conversion in good yield in a simple process by converting quinone into hydroquinone using a hydrogen type cation exchanger and oxidizing the hydroquinone into the quinone using a sodium type cation exchanger. n CONSTITUTION: An eluent consisting of water or water-organic solvent is continuously made to flow into a column filled with a hydrogen type cation exchange resin or hollow and hydrogen type cation exchange resin membrane and quinone is injected from the upper part thereof and reduced with immobilized hydrogen ions in the hydrogen type cation exchange resin to recover the hydroquinone from the lower part thereof. Furthermore, an eluent consisting of water or water-organic solvent is continuously made to flow into a column filled with a sodium type cation exchange resin or a hollow and neutral salt type cation exchange resin membrane and hydroquinone is injected from the upper part thereof and oxidized with immobilized ions in the resin to recover the quinone from the lower part thereof. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
