titleOfInvention Production of base paper for light weight coat paper
abstract PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing the subject paper high in opacity and strength, thinned and lightened by making paper in neutral region from a pulp slurry so added with chromatic color dyestuffs and/or pigments as to provide the resultant base paper with a specific reflecting characteristic. n CONSTITUTION: This base paper is obtained from a pump slurry which comprises (A) calcium carbonate as a paper-making filler, (B) ≥2 kinds of chromatic color dyestuffs and/or pigments for providing the base paper with such a surface reflecting property defined as (a*)=-5.0 to 0.5 and (b*)=-1.0 to 8.0 in the method of measurement regulated in JIS Z-8722 and the notation JIS Z-8730, and (C) a cationic and dipolar water-soluble macromolecular substance for preparing the slurry at pH 6.5 to 9.0. Preferably, the component A is mainly formed of light calcium carbonate and used in the ratio of 3 to 25 wt.%, and the component B is totally used in the proportion of 5 to 700 ppm based on the weight of fiber so as to reduce L* by 1 to 10 points. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO
