titleOfInvention Method for inhibiting growth of microorganism
abstract PURPOSE: To efficiently inhibit growth of microorganisms without causing noxious action on warm-blooded animals, by the presence of an effective amount of nontoxic porphyrin compounds in an aqueous system, such as swimming pool, containing existing microorganisms, such as bacteria or algae, and bringing the compounds into contact with the microorganisms. n CONSTITUTION: A nontoxic and nonirritating porphyrin compound expressed by the formula (X is H, vinyl, ethyl, acetyl or formyl; Y is CH 3 or formyl; M is CH 3 ; E is C 2 H 5 ), e.g. chlorin e6, mesochlorin e6 or bacteriochlorin e6, or salt thereof is present in an amount of 0.1W50ppm effective in inhibiting growth of microorganisms in an aqueous system, such as swimming pool, water reservoir and cooling tower, containing existing microorganisms, and brought into contact with the microorganisms to inhibit the growth of the microorganisms in the aqueous system. This method is considered as effective in preventing growth of infectious microorganisms causing infectious diseases. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
