PURPOSE:To obtain a synthetic lubricating oil stably usable for a long period of time, useful as oil of gasoline engine, turbine oil containing no additive, gear oil for automobile, etc., containing a naphthyl ether compound as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic lubricating oil comprising a naphthyl ether compound shown by formula I (X1 is 1-20C alkyl, phenyl, 7-26C monoalkylphenyl or group shown by formula II; R1 is 2-20C alkylene) at least as a main component. When the oil is used, the synthetic lubricating oil is optionally blended with <50wt.%, especially <20wt.% based on total amounts of lubricating oils of mineral oil and well-known synthetic lubricating oil. An alkylnaphtyl ether compound among naphthyl ether compound is synthesized by reacting a halogenated naphthalene with an alkylphenol in the presence of a catalyst such as copper, copper oxide (I) or copper chloride under heating. |
