titleOfInvention | Production of 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methylbenzoquinone |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for quinone-type carcinostatic agent and coenzyme Q, in one step and high yield, without causing the problem of industrial waste, etc., by using 3,4,5- trimethoxytoluene as a raw material and oxidizing the material in the presence of a specific oxidation catalyst and an oxidizing agent. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is produced by using 3,4,5- trimethoxytoluene as a raw material and hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent and oxidizing the material with the oxidizing agent at 0-100°C, preferably 10-70°C for 1-24hr in the presence of an oxidation catalyst consisting of a heteropolyacid having phosphorus or silicon as a center element and containing molybdenum or tungsten. The amount of the oxidizing agent is 1-30 pts., preferably 2-10 pts., per 1 pt. or the stoichiometric amount necessary for the reaction. The amount of the oxidation catalyst is ≤0.05mol, preferably 0.001-0.03mol per 1mol of the raw material. The above reaction is carried out preferably by using a water-soluble organic solvent such as formic acid. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
