titleOfInvention Hmg-coa reductase inhibitor produced by nocardia species (ma 6455)
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain 6-hydroxymethyl derivative useful as a HMG-CoA reduction enzyme inhibitor in an improved yield by cultivating a novel microorganism Nocardia species in a specified medium under aerobic conditions. n CONSTITUTION: A novel microorganism Nocardia species (MA 6455) (ATCC 53695) of formula I (formula II is preferably 2-methylbutylyl, 2,2-dimethylbutylyl) and its sodium salt are cultivated in a nutrient medium containing assimilated nitrogen and carbon sources at 27°C for 4-6 days under aerobic conditions until a substantial amount of the compound is produced, and the obtained compound is separated to obtain a compound of formula III (R is CH 2 OH, COOH) such as 6(R)-{2-[8(S)(2,2-dimethylbutylyloxy)2(S)-methyl-6(S)hydroxymethyl-1,2,6,7,8,8a (R)-hexahydronaphthyl-1 (S)]ethyl}4(R)-3,4,5,6tetrahydro-2Hpyran-2-one. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO
