PURPOSE: To improve the conversion and yield of a reaction under specified conditions by using a specified catalyst consisting of a quaternary osmium salt and a transition metal salt when a heading compound is obtained by the liquid phase oxidation of toluene using oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a phase transition catalyst and a solvent. n CONSTITUTION: An aimed compound is obtained by the liquid phase oxidation of toluene using a catalyst containing (A) a quaternary osmium salt of the formula (Y is N, P; R 1 is alkyl; R 2 , R 3 , R 4 can be the same, different, or linked internally, 17-58C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aryl, aralkyl; X - is added with bromide or bromide when F - , Cl - , Br - , OH - , CH 2 COO - , HSO, Br - are not exist in the system) and (B) a transition metal salt in which the ratio of A/B is 0.025/1-1.5/1 and oxygen-containing gas in a small amount of a polar solvent under the oxygen partial pressure of less than 50 atm. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
