titleOfInvention Optical resolution of (+-)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To optically resolve (±)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acid, by using optically active 1-(p-tolyl)ethylamine or optically active N-(2-hydroxy)ethyl-α- methylbenzylamine as a resolving agent. n CONSTITUTION: (±)-2-Hydroxyl-4-phenylbutanoic acid is treated with optically active 1-(p-tolyl)ethylamine or optically active N-(2-hydroxy)ethyl-α- methylbenzylamine as a resolving agent to give diastoreomer salts corresponding to (+)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acid and (-)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoic acid, respectively. The salts are separated by utilizing difference in solubility in a solvent to carry out optical resolution. By this method, optical resolution can be carried out inexpensively in high purity and in relatively high yield. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
