abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain an oral composition containing a specific surfactant and having suppressing action on formation of dental plaque, e.g. mousewash, mouserinse or toothpaste. n CONSTITUTION: This oral composition is obtained by compounding 0.00001-0.1M surfactant selected from a group comprising a substituted taurine of formula I (R 1 is a 10-24C organic hydrocarbon; X is H, an alkali metal or ammonium), a substituted isethionate of formula II and a substituted hydroxysultain of formula III in an amount of 0.002-2.0wt.% based on total weight of the composition into a mixture of water with an alcohol and as necessary, further compounding a fluorine feeding compound, a flavor, a coloring agent, natural sweetener, an artificial sweetener, etc., therein. The ratio of water with the alcohol is preferably (1:1) to (20:1). Since the composition can suppress initial adherence of bacteria to the dental surface, the compound suppresses the formation of dental plaque, and suppresses glucosyl transferase catalysis in the case of one class of surfactants to prevent the synthesis of extracellular polysaccharides derived from scurose. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
