NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (wherein n is 0-10; W' is H, a 1-18C alkyl or a 7-10C aralkyl; and R 3 to R 5 are each H, provided that R 3 and R 4 or R 4 and R 5 may be combined with each other to form a chemical bond). n EXAMPLE: 2β,3αβ,7αβOctahydroindole2-carboxylic acid. n USE: An antihypertensive or an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. n PREPARATION: A compound of formula II is acrylated, and the product is anodically oxidized in the presence of a conductive salt in an alcohol to obtain a compound of formula III. This compound is then reacted with trimethylsilyl cyanide in the presence of a Lewis acid to obtain a compound of formula IV, and this is hydrolyzed by the action of an acid or a base to obtain a compound of formula I (wherein W' is H). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
