titleOfInvention Aqueous solution of pharmaceutical composition of piroxicam and its production
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare an aqueous solution of pharmaceutical composition, usable for injection or ophthalmic applications and having a high local tolerability by dispersing piroxicam which is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent in water, adding an alkali(ne earth) metallic hydroxide thereto under stirring and completely dissolving the alkali(ne earth) metallic hydroxide therein. n CONSTITUTION: Piroxicam [chemical name: N-(2-pyridyl)-2-methyl-4-hydroxy-2 H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide] is dispersed in water at a concentration within the range of 1-4wt./vol.% and an aqueous solution of an alkali(ne earth) metallic hydroxide, preferably a 1N NaOH in a stoichiometric amount is then added thereto under stirring and completely dissolved therein. The aqueous solution is in the form of a directly usable solution or a freeze-dried state for dissolving in distilled water for injection before use and contains 10-30mg active ingredient in a dose at a time or at 0.2-1% concentration of the active ingredient. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO
