titleOfInvention Microporous membrane for filtration of beer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a microporous membrane for filtration of beer which is capable of removing the bacteria harmful to the beer and has high penetratability to the beer by using the microporous membrane comprising polyether sulfone having a specific pore size and a hydrophilization agent. n CONSTITUTION: The polyether sulfone is dissolved in a nonprotonic, polar solvent, such as dimethylformamide, and the hydrophilization agent, such as polyethylene glycol and polyvinylpyrrolidone, is added to the soln. to prepare a soln. mixture. This soln. mixture is poured as a layer and the layer is then wetted to the extent sufficient for settling the membrane. A module is formed by using the thus resulted microporous membrane having the pore size of 0.1 to 1.2 microns as a membrane filter. This module is used for filtration of the beer at a brewery. If the membrane is formed in such a manner, the sterilization filtration relating to the bacteria harmful to the beer may be cost-effectively achieved with a sufficiently high throughput. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO
