titleOfInvention Treatment of rice hulls
abstract PURPOSE: To impart rice hulls with excellent water absorptivity and flammability, by bringing rice hulls into contact with a solution capable of forming water-soluble compounds by reaction with specific component(s) contained in said hulls, followed by excluding the excess portion of said solution and allowing to be left to stand to proceed with sufficient reaction and then washing the resultant hulls with water. n CONSTITUTION: Rice hulls 1 is packed into a water-penetrable container 4 and immersed, for a short time, in an impregnation tank 2 where a solution 3 such as of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or sodium hypochlorite or mixed solution therefrom i.e., a solution capable of forming water-soluble compounds by reaction with the specific component(s) in said hulls 1 is held, to effect contact between the solution 3 and the rice hulls 1. Thence, the container 4 is lifted from the tank 2 followed by compressing with a compressive device 6 to expel the excess of the solution 3 via, a liquid-removing part 5. The resultant container is then left to stand to sufficiently proceed with the reaction followed by removing the water-soluble component produced through washing with water, thereby enabling said rice hulls 1 to be imparted with excellent water absorptivity and flammability leading to expansion of the application range for said rice hulls 1. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
