titleOfInvention Cholesteric liquid crystal composition and cosmetic material containing the same
abstract PURPOSE:To improve color developing and water retaining properties of a liq. crystal and the beauty of decorations and cosmetics prepared therefrom, by adding a sterol to a particular liq. crystal base. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystal base (A) composed of a cholesteryl halide (a), pref. cholesteryl chloride, a cholesteryl ester (b), pref. a cholesteryl fatty acid ester and at least two members (c), pref. selected from cholesteryl oleyl carbonate and cholesteryl isostearyl carbonate is blended with 0.3-30wt.% (hereinafter simply %) sterol (B) pref. in such proportions that the content of component (a) is 1-35%, the content of component (b) is 10-70%, the content of component (c) is 0.3-30% and the content of component (B) is 0.3-30%. Thus, the title compsn. is obtained. A cosmetic material is blended with 0.1-0.5% compsn. defined above, optionally contg. a sphingoglycolipid.
