titleOfInvention Production of surface-modified aromatic polyamide fiber
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title fiber outstanding in resistance to the solvents for matrix resins and in adherability to the matrix resins, by treating an aromatic polyamide fiber with a specific inorganic compound followed by treatment with a specific organosilicon compound. n CONSTITUTION: An aromatic polyamide fiber is impregnated with an aqueous dispersion containing hydrous magnesium silicate fine powder ≤3μ in mean size and a hydrated gel-forming inorganic compound (e.g., aluminum silicate) followed by e.g., drying and hot drawing. Thence, the resultant fiber is treated with an organo-silicon compound having in the molecule at least two reactive groups differing from each other consisting of a reactive group selected from methoxy, ethoxy, cellosolve groups etc., and at least one reactive group selected from epoxy, amino, isocyanate and vinyl groups (e.g., silane coupling agent) to impart said fiber with 0.3-1.5wt.% based on said fiber of said compound, thus obtaining the objective surface-modified aromatic polyamide fiber. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
